Are you a knitting designer in need of a second pair of eyes to look over your pattern before you publish?
Do you enjoy designing gorgeous lace patterns but aren’t sure if your instructions are clear enough?
Do you need help to create polished patterns that will have knitters coming back for more?
I am a tech editor with 10 years knitting experience. I enjoy knitting and editing lace accessories, such as shawls, as well as garments. My background is in accounts and administration giving me 6 years experience hunting down those missing numbers and getting everything to balance.
As your tech editor I will check that:
- your key numbers and any pattern repeats are accurate
- all increases/decreases give the necessary stitch counts
- your charts match your written instructions (if required)
- your pattern has the same format and style throughout
- the gauge reflects the finished measurements given in your pattern
- the finished measurements are within range for the appropriate standards (if required).
I can also recommend any additional features that may help your pattern appeal to a new/returning knitter if required.
What is it like to work with me?
I accept patterns in PDF format only. If you need help converting your word document in to PDF, please contact me.
When you send your pattern to me I will look at it before replying with a quote for how long I think it will take and how much it will cost.
The quote will include:
- the initial edit
- a second edit, once you have made any changes
- a final check, after test knitting (if applicable) or before you publish.
If you could send a style sheet or an example of a previous pattern this could help to cut down on the edit time. If you need help creating a style sheet, I have a blog post explaining the things you could include to help create a consistent pattern style.
Once I have received an email from you accepting the quote or making any amendments necessary, then I will begin the edit.
My turnaround for each edit is 5 working days from receiving your email.
As your tech editor I will not make any changes to your pattern, I will only annotate your PDF with any suggestions or changes needed, then send it back for you to make the changes you feel necessary.
My rate is £20 per hour, charged in 15 minute increments (minimum charge 1 hour).
As a guide, simple accessories should take between 1-1 1/2 hours. More complex garments should take between 2-3 hours.
For a tailored quote please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or you can get in touch via my contact page.
